Iran’s ‘Roya’ to compete at 2023 MESA fest in the US

Iranian short film 'Roya' is to vie at the 2023 Mesa International Film Festival in the US.

Iranian short film ‘Roya’ (Dream) has entered the 2023 competition lineup of the Mesa International Film Festival in the US.

The film, directed by Mohammad-Reza Mohammadi, is about a young Afghan couple who tries to illegally enter Europe, but faces various challenges.

‘Roya’ is currently taking part in the Euroshorts Young Filmmakers international film festival in Poland.

The film previously took part in the 73rd Montecatini International Short Film Festival in Italy as well as the 2022 Earl’s Court Film Festival in the UK.

‘Roya’ has recently grabbed three awards at the Five Continents International Film Festival in Venezuela, including the best social short film, best screenplay awards and a special mention.  

Short animation ‘The Boot’ and ‘Tablet’ are also two other contestants to present Iran at the 2023 edition of the American film festival, which will take place on November 30 – December 3.

The Mesa Film Festival aims to create a one-of-a-kind experience for filmmakers by giving them a platform to learn about the industry, watch great independent films, network and make lifelong memories and friends.
